What are the age groups for Football and Cheerleading?

Flag Football     Ages 5-6
Midget Football  Ages 6-7    (Tackle Football)
Rookie Football  Ages 8-9    (Tackle Football)
Junior Football   Ages 10-11 (Tackle Football)
Senior Football  Ages 12-13  (Tackle Football)
Cheerleading     Ages 5-13

How do you determine a child’s age eligibility?

An athlete’s eligibility to participate is based on that athlete’s age as of August 1st of the current year.

Who can play in TYFA?

All classification of play rather in be tackle or flag football, cheer or dance, are open to boys and girls.  There are no weight restrictions in TYFA.

Can my child play Middle School and Judson Junior Rocket Football?

Yes.  Many of our Junior and Senior team members play both Middle School and Judson Junior Rocket Football.  We encourage athletes to play both and work with those who decide to do so to ensure success in both arenas.  However, your child is not allowed to participate in TYFA if they are involved in any other same sport league during the TYFA season, example: Pop Warner, Texas Team Sports, ext...

What is the registration fee and how can I register my child?

Prices for our program are as follows:
Flag Football - $70      (Ages 5-6)
Tackle Football - $95  (Ages 7-13)
Cheerleading - $TBD   (Ages 5-13)

You can register your child for Judson Junior Rocket Football or Cheerleading  starting on May 15th in front of Judson High School Red Campus, 9142 FM78, Converse TX 78109, from 10am to 2pm.  Registration will continue each Saturday at the same location until all teams are full.  Space will fill up fast, don’t delay.  Waiting list will be available.

Judson Junior Rockets is the only local Football organization charging less then $100 to play tackle Football.

What equipment do I receive from the Judson Junior Rocket Football?

Your child will be issued a Certified Helmet, Shoulder Pads, Game Jersey, Game Paints, Practice Paints (including 7 piece Pad Set: 2 thigh, 2 Knee,2 Hip and 1 Tailbone Pad) and Game Socks.  You will be responsible for providing Cleats and practice Jersey.

What equipment does my child keep at the end of the season?

At the completion of the Football season your child will be required to return all issued equipment except the Game Jersey and Socks.  The game Jersey is given to your child as a memento of their season with The Judson Junior Rockets.  As for the socks, usually they’re just too funky!

Is there an Awards Banquet?

Yes.  At the completion of the season for all teams, an Awards Banquet is held, including meal and Trophy presentation.  All children who participated in Judson Junior Rocket Cheer or Football will receive a trophy during the banquet.   

Do you offer refunds?

After the first week of practice there is no refund.

Is travel  to away games required?

Yes.  TYFA is a constantly expanding league.  It is one of the largest independent leagues in the country with more then 50 organizations across Texas competing for State Titles.  Most of Judson’s games will be in the San Antonio area ,however, we maybe require to travel to other teams home fields in locations like: Killeen, Schertz, Pleasanton, Floresville, Kirby, Austin, Round Rock, New Braunfels, Fredericksburg and Pflugerville.  Unlike most Middle School Districts, our teams compete against talented players from around Texas which closely mimic the high school football experience.  This year’s TYFA playoff were facilitated at multiple locations primarily used by our state’s high school teams culminating with the TYFA Championship Game played at The Alamo-dome, San Antonio, Texas.   

Are coaches certified?

All coaches attend TYFA certification training and have mandatory criminal back ground checks completed to ensure your child’s safety.  

When does the season start?

The regular season starts in early September ,including playoff games, will end in early January.  Regular season starts in early September and consist of 8 games ending in November.  If teams qualify, the playoffs will start ending with the championship game played in early January.  Practice will start in early August in preparation for the regular season.

All games are played on Saturday, generally starting with the Flag Team at 9:00 AM and ending with the senior team around 6:00 PM.  

Where is practice and where is Judson Junior Rocket’s home field?

Practice and Judson Junior Rocket’s home field are located at Universal City Park, Universal City Texas, just off of Pat Booker Road towards the front entrance to Randolph Air Force Base.

Universal City Park is a 32-acre park that features three lighted softball/baseball fields with dugouts, bleachers, score keepers box /concession building with restrooms. In addition there is a half-mile walking/jogging path, large open-air pavilion, two sand volleyball courts, regulation size football field, disc golf course and two playgrounds.

Originally the property of Judson High School and the score keeper for six Judson High School State Championships, this score board has a new home at the Judson Junior Rocket home field, Universal Park.

Constructed from the original bleachers of the old Judson High School Football Stadium, our bleachers have been the vantage point not just for six State Championship seasons at Judson High School but have witnessed  our continuing winning tradition here at Universal City Park.
